4 Methods for Playing Fast, Effortlessly! - 100 Days of Soulforce #25

How do you play something really fast, but without getting tense? After all, tension and effort actually interfere with your ability to play fast - just think of how fluidly a hummingbird moves its wings!

In this video, I share four methods of learning how to actually *release* tension when you play fast so that you can feel at ease and play accurately, even when going a million miles an hour.

Day 25 of 100 Days of Soulforce:

- How an Olympic skier trained for "non-reactivity"

- Playing fast and the "Magic Pause" - releasing the anticipatory tension that comes up when you even think about playing fast

- Applying the Magic Pause to moving your fingers quickly

- How to use improvisation to gain speed in practicing

- How the most important quality in playing fast is *effortlessness*

- Applying the "Doing Mode" & the "Receiving Mode" to playing fast

This video was recorded in a recent Alexander Technique lesson that I taught; hence the black screen and extra noises. If you'd like to take private lessons with me. you can reach me at

What's "100 Days of Soulforce"?

I'm embarking on a mission to spread the word about Soulforce Performing Arts because I believe it is a needed message for artists of all kinds in our times. To that end, I'm making 100 videos over the coming 100 days (or so) to explain all the different angles and ideas, and to hopefully spark inspiration in you! Each video will have inspirational and practical ideas for you to bring more Soulforce to your life as a performing artist.

These ideas are a part of my upcoming book: "Soulforce Performance Arts: Redefining Artistic Performance, Practice, and Pedagogy in a World That's Lost Its Mind." Subscribers to my newsletter will get early access and special perks. :)
